Award Winning

During its opening season, The Southern California Restaurant Writer's Association named Mayo's a Promising Newcomer. Sure enough...Mayo's went on to win the Gold Continental Cusine Food Critic's Award two years in a row and also has an award winning wine cellar.

The Atmosphere

Mayo has created a contemporary, intimate atmosphere, a "True Blue" New York Bistro. The burgundy and white linens match the china which contrasts with gray textured walls, gray and black carpets and the black piano bar. Mirrored wall designs and muted lighting complete the effect that has won Mayo's multiple restaurant interior design awards from the American Society of Interior Designers.

The History

Vetern restauranteur Bob Mayo, apprenticed with renowned Miami Beach Maitre d' Julie Katz. May had a lengthy New York restaurant career followed by stints as maitre d' of the palm Springs Racquet Club and general manager/maitre d' of Mama Gina's. His son Bobby and daughter Renee, are also in the restaurant business.

An Evening at Mayo's

As you stroll along famous El Paseo you hear the piano music that plays nightly waiting out passed the misted patio. The maitre d' greets you, leads you to your cozy table and offers you a cocktail. Your server appears a bit later with menu's and may expound on any specials for the evening. You are then free to peruse the award winning wine list and the menu of sumptuous continental fare with a definite Italian accent. From lucious appetizers including carpaccio to a variety of salads and soups to the entrees consisting of pasta dishes, an unbelievable veal chop, Dover sole or Chateaubriand for two and other specialties, you must somehow make a choice or two. Afterwards, perhaps a coffee or cappuccino and dessert and maybe, just maybe you can fit in an aperitif.
