Fun and Adventure In California and Nevada

Northern California & Nevada

Whether you choose to begin one of your fun vacations from California or another state, you will never run out of things to do and see. Tourism in America is WONDERFUL! Our site will help you to enjoy it even more! If you're looking for lodging or affordable vacation packages, this is the place. Our recent addition, The Vacationer's Shopping Site could save you some time. You can find items such as cameras, luggage, film or prepaid film developing to take with you to destinations like Mendocino or San Francisco. Around the San Francisco Bay Area and points north, family fun comes in natural settings; along the waterfront, in the mountains, or in the forests.

On the North Coast, don't miss California's coastal redwoods, the world's tallest trees. View the redwoods from Humbolt State Park or drive the Avenue of the Giants, a 31 mile stretch along Highway 101 - and in the far north, Redwood National Park.

In San Francisco, catch a Powell-Hyde cable car for a decent to the Hyde Street Pier, home of the largest fleet of historic ships. A stroll along Fisherman's Warf leads to Pier 39, where many shops, a carousal, a colony of sea lions, and a new aquarium await. From Pier 41, boats leave for a trip to Alcatraz Island, site of the famous prison.

For playgrounds, paddleboats, and bike trails head for Golden Gate Park. The California Academy of Sciences in the park, the Exploratorium in the Marina District, and Sausalito's Bay Area Discovery Museum are treasures for kids. All are loaded interactive exhibits.

The Wine Country, just north of San Francisco, can be an enriching experience. Visit the pages for Napa, Sonoma, and Mendocino Wine Country. No matter where you are in California's wine country you can find great hotels and very special places to eat. Don't miss seeing the incredible vineyards or stop in for a bit of wine tasting. Napa and Sonoma are also not to be missed.

In Napa, located at the entrance to Napa Valley, you will discover the Chateau Hotel combining warm country charm with big city comfort and for a your appetite, Yoshi Shigi Japanese Restaurant. North of Napa is the place to start your touring of the area's fine wineries with Grgich Hills Winery and The Grasier Winery, located in Calistoga. You might want to take a tour of the area with Wine Country Jeep Tours.

The next stop on your tour is Santa Rosa. There you will find the luxury and tranquility of The Flamingo Resort Hotel. For your dining pleasure, you must visit The Shogun Japanese Restaurant, the "Best Japanese Restaurant in Sonoma County." For a bird's eye view contact Aerostat Balloon Flights. For excellent pricing on wine country wines stop by the Bottlebarn.

Further down the road is Healdsburg and The Dry Creek Inn, conveniently located close to everything from wineries to their historic plaza. The Western Boot Steak House has been a favorite since 1983. You can also enjoy the laid back atmosphere of Catelli's The Rex. There are four stops on your tour of the wineries, Johnson's Alexander Valley, Foppiano Vineyards, Canyon Road Winery and Trentadue Winery.

Next we come to Sonoma and the Sonoma Valley Inn, a Best Western property. While in Sonoma you will find Ravenswood Winery and also our personal favorite, The Sabastiani Winery, home of the largest wine storage barrel in the world! We so enjoyed their tour!

We continue on to Petaluma, home to the wrist wrestling championship and once the "chicken capital of the world". There you can stay at the three diamond rated Quality Inn. Their amenities include a modem friendly phone system and in room spas. You will enjoy the food at Las Parrillas or Petaluma Pueblo Del Sol. Located in near by Cotati you will also find Spiros Green Oaks Restaurant. Spiro serves Greek, American and Italian food.

Finally we come to Rohnert Park and to The Good Nite Inn. While in Rohnert Park you may want to sample the cuisine at The Confucius Restaurant. Their menu includes Mandarine, Szecuan, as well as Hunan Cuisine at affordable prices.

In the nearby Gold Country, pan for gold, raft the white water, and relive the Gold Rush days at Columbia State Historic Park and Coloma, the first gold discovery site.

Across the State, where California meets Nevada, you will find the incredible lake at Tahoe. Lake Tahoe boasts many fine hotels and restaurants and there's lots to do no matter the season! The Ridgewood Inn, located by the airport is a good choice if you're spending your time by the "Y". If you're spending most of your time by Stateline, The Viking Motor Lodge or The Royal Valhalla Motor Lodge might be the better choice for you. When you get ready for some great food, check out the menu at Marie Callender's Restaurant, and for the experience of a lifetime see Lake Tahoe from high above in a hot air balloon from Lake Tahoe Balloons.

East of Tahoe is the "Oasis in the Desert," Fallon, NV. It is the home of the Top Gun military installation. There's plenty to keep you busy here from casinos including the Holiday Inn Express and Stockman's Casino to horse back riding at The Flying M Stables. If you want to stay some place more quiet there's the Econolodge. David, the owner is a great guy and aims to please! Right across the street from the Econolodge is the Que Pasa Restaurante. If you're a history buff there's a neat museum filled with information about Fallon's past.

South along the coast lies Monterey Bay Aquarium. A new wing showcases life in the open ocean. At Point Lobos State Reserve, you can hike and watch sea lions, otters, and migrating whales. Farther south, near San Simeon, tour Hearst Castle, perched above the Pacific.

You might want to worship with the people in Stockton at Lighthouse Village who are missionary minded. Stockton is where you would catch I-5 from San Francisco to points south. El Dorado Bowl in Stockton provides safe family and senior recreation with real wood lanes. You can preview the restaurant menu for a pleasant meal as you continue down I-5.
