Grgich Hills Cellar was formed in 1977 through the efforts of Miljenko Grgich and Austin Hills of Hills Bros. coffee family. Back in 1977, Grgich had the skill and expertise to make great wines, and Hills, owner of established vineyards, had a background in business and finance.

The stellar attraction at Grgich Hills Cellar has been the Chardonnay. These big, mouth-filling Chardonnays display the buttery, creamy accents that connoisseurs search for in some of the greatest Chardonnays.

Of increasing fame is the Grgich Hills Cabernet Sauvignon. Crafted mostly from estate vineyards in Yountville, less than a mile south of the legendary Martha's Vineyard, these Cabernets offer great fruity lushness and firm structure with tremendous depth and complexity.

Of additional interest is a crisp and elegant Fume Blanc. Produced from estate vineyards, known as Olive Hills, this wine was cold fermented and aged for five months in French Limousin oak barrels. This procedure has reduced the smokiness and aggressive, vegetative quality often encountered in this varietal and has succeeded in bringing forth clean, fruity Sauvignon Blanc aromas and flavors.

As for Zinfandel, this wine seems to thrive on adversity. Ancient vines from inhospitable vineyards create Zinfandels of greater intensity and character. Therefore, the fruit for the Grgich Hills Zinfandels has always been crafted from older hillside vineyards - hot and windy locations that defy attempts at irragation. We have been fortunate to locate several old Sonoma County hillside vineyards which consistantly produce fruit with all the components for wines of impressive scale and longevity.

Excellence is an uncompromising philosophy at Grgich Hills Cellar. Each wine is created as a special child, receiving devoted attention to every stage of its development to achieve its own unique character. Never satisfied with yesterday's best, each vintage arrives as a new challenge to create the best wines of the future.
